Image Compressor: Reduce Image Size Without Losing Quality
Large images slow down websites, fill up inboxes and use up phone storage. An Image Compressor makes them much smaller while keeping them looking good, right in your browser and with no sign up.
Why compress images?
- Faster pages: smaller files load quicker, especially on mobile data.
- Better SEO: page speed is part of how search engines judge a site.
- Email and uploads: many forms and email services limit file size.
- Storage and bandwidth: smaller images save space and hosting costs.
How the Image Compressor works
- Drop up to 20 JPG, PNG or WebP images into the box, or tap to choose them.
- Set the quality. The default of 75% is a good balance of size and sharpness.
- Choose the output format: WebP for the smallest files, JPEG for the widest support, or the same as the original.
- Optionally choose a maximum width, such as 1920 or 1280 pixels.
- Check the before and after size for each image, then press Download.
Changing a setting recompresses all your images straight away, so you can try different levels until you are happy.
Choosing the right format
- WebP: usually the smallest, supports transparency and works in all modern browsers.
- JPEG: best for photos and works everywhere, but has no transparency.
- PNG: best for sharp graphics and logos. It is lossless, so the quality setting does not apply. Resize it or switch to WebP to save space.
Tips for the best results
- Resize before you compress. A 4000-pixel photo shown at 800 pixels wastes most of its size.
- Try a quality of 70 to 85% for photos. Most people cannot see the difference from the original.
- Keep your original files. Compression removes detail, and you cannot get it back.
- Add descriptive file names and alt text to help image SEO and accessibility.
Already optimized images
If an image cannot get smaller without a visible loss, the tool marks it "Already optimized" and gives you the original file back, so you never end up with a bigger file.
Private by design
Many online compressors upload your photos to a server. Ours does not. All the work happens inside your browser, so your pictures never leave your device. There is no sign up, no login and no watermark.
Frequently asked questions
Will my image look worse? A little detail is removed, but at sensible quality levels the change is hard to see.
Why did my PNG barely change? PNG is lossless. Choose WebP or reduce the maximum width for bigger savings.
Is there a limit? You can compress up to 20 images at once.
