QR Code Generator: How to Create Free QR Codes
A QR code lets people open a link, join Wi-Fi or save a contact just by scanning with their phone camera. A QR Code Generator makes one in seconds, free and with no sign up.
What is a QR code?
A QR code is a square pattern of dots that stores information, such as a web address or a line of text. Phones read it with the camera and act on it straight away, so nobody has to type anything.
What can you put in a QR code?
- Link: send people to your website, menu or social page.
- Text: share a short message or note.
- Wi-Fi: let guests join your network without typing the password.
- Email, phone and SMS: start a message or call with details already filled in.
- Contact: share a name, company, phone, email and website as a contact card.
How to create a QR code
- Choose the type of code, such as Link or Wi-Fi.
- Fill in the details. The preview updates as you type.
- Pick your style: dot shape, corner shape and colors, or one of the color presets.
- Download it as a PNG for sharing and printing, or an SVG for sharp results at any size.
Make it look good and still scan
- Keep strong contrast. Use a dark code on a light background. Light colors on a light background will not scan.
- Leave a quiet border. Keep the standard margin so scanners can find the edges.
- Choose error correction wisely. Higher levels still scan if part of the code is dirty or covered, but they make the pattern denser.
- Test before printing. Scan with more than one phone first.
Where to use QR codes
Restaurants put them on menus, shops on posters and packaging, and businesses on cards and flyers. Events use them for tickets and schedules, and homes use them for guest Wi-Fi.
Print size and placement
Print a QR code at least 2 cm (about 0.8 inches) wide, and bigger if people scan from a distance. Place it on a flat, well-lit surface, not on a curve or a glossy area that reflects light.
Free and private
Our QR Code Generator runs in your browser. Your link, Wi-Fi password and contact details are never uploaded or stored. The codes never expire, and there is no sign up or login.
Frequently asked questions
Do these QR codes expire? No. The information is stored in the code itself, so it works as long as the link or details stay valid.
Can I change a code later? No. If the link changes, create a new code. Link to a page you control so you can update where it points.
PNG or SVG? Use PNG for screens and quick sharing, and SVG for printing at large sizes.
